Reviews on Jetstar, and Ticket Price Comparison Among Budget Airlines

I have had experience flying with various budget airlines, such as Jetstar, Scoot, Tiger (now Scoot and Tiger merged together). These are the popular airways in southeast Asia. In this post I will share my experience with these airlines and compare Jetstar with the rest.

Price Review

Do not be fooled by the initial price that you searched from these airlines' official websites - the actual price will add on as you compete the booking process. In July this year (2017), I was booking tickets from Singapore to Bangkok and surprisingly I saw 30 SGD ticket and that was enticing. Me and my friends immediately chose to go with Jetstar and guess what, in the end we paid more than 100 SGD. So it was hard to tell which airline you should go for without knowing the fees that are excluded from the "ticket price". In the following content and I will discuss all sorts of fees that Jetstar may charge you as well as provide comparison reviews on Jetstar and Scoot.

Baggage Review

Carry-on luggage

JetStar allows its Economy class customers take 1 piece of carry-on luggage + 1 small with a combined weight of 7 kg in total. As for Business Class customers, you can take double - you will be allowed to take 2 pieces of carry-on luggage with a combined weight of 14kg.

Scoot's Economy allows 1 piece of carry-on luggage up to 7kg and 3kg more if you are carry a laptop with you. For ScootBiz class, customers are allowed to take 2 pieces of carry-on luggage less than 15kg in total.

Add-on Baggage

Check-in baggage need to be paid separately for budget airlines. The fee may vary depending on your destination country. However, generally Scoot is cheaper than Jetstar.

Booking Fee

Yes, there is, booking fee, if you are using credit card.
Jetstar charges 15 SGD credit card booking fee for returning tickets.
Scoot charges 18 to 20 SGD per transaction.
Tiger charges 18 SGD.

Tax

Jetstar includes taxes in ticket prices while Scoot excludes. Be prepared to add on more tax fee in the end if you are flying Scoot.

Seat Selection Fee

Different airlines provides different types of seats for their customers to choose from, for example, standard, stretch, etc. Based on my experience, selecting standard seats from Jetstar and Scoot are 5 SGD and 7 SGD, respectively.

Promotion

Look out for the promotion days!
Jetstar: Every Friday.
Scoot: Every Tuesday.
Tiger: Every Thursday.
