Flight Experience and Jetstar Reviews

Is Budget Airline Really Bad?

I'm not sure if you have the following stereotype on budget airline - e.g. bad service, safety issue. If you do, it is time to wipe them out because bad service and safety issue, based on my experience, is not specifically associated with budget airlines. I have had experience flying with various budget airlines including Jetstar, AirAsia, Scoot and Tiger. And they all seem to be okay for me.

Is It Safe To Travel With Budget Airlines? How About Jetstar?

I mean, if an aircraft is allowed to fly, then it is as safe as any other aircraft :)

Budget aircrafts are no less safer than whatever other carrier. While they do compromise to cut down cost, they understand that compromising on wellbeing could totally demolish their business. Some of their cost-cutting measures even increment wellbeing, for example, the dependence on one kind of flying machine over the armada. Without a doubt, one of the most established spending bearers, Southwest, has never had a noteworthy crash or traveler casualty.

Specifically Regarding to Jetstar, in Qantas' topsy turvy world, new airplane go to its markdown auxiliary Jetstar, while old planes requiring a considerable measure of support stay with its exceptional parent Qantas. When Boeing 787's resembled a smart thought Jetstar requested numerous, however now that the flying machine have had a stressing number of potential catashrophes they are a promoting and upkeep bad dream. This aides clarifies Qantas' current shocking series of occurrences and poor budgetary execution, and Jetstar's generally spotless record. Jetstar's low paid pilots keep up the most noteworthy gauges of their calling and don't trade off security.

Reviews On Online Ticket Booking, Price and Check-in Process

Book Ticket Online

Jetstar (and other budget airways) makes their online booking process flexible in the sense that customer are free to choose whether to enjoy certain services such as seat reservation and in-flight meals. I will demonstrate the online booking process below.

Suppose I am booking returning flights from Singapore to Osaka. By selecting the departure and arrival dates, I got the following offer.

It seems to be a good deal with relatively low price. However, this will never be the final price you are going to pay for. This is because Jetstar exclude tax fee from their ticket price. You will notice that at the bottom of the page there is a section called flights Summary and tax fees will be added in here.

Let's continue from here, you will be then asked to choose a bundle to purchase with, the price and provisions are shown as below. Usually I will just go with no bundle and you will still have the chance to purchase extra baggage and meals in the following steps.

Jetstar allows you to travel with carry-on luggage not exceeding 7kg for free. Anything more than that will need to be charged extra. So if you have check-in baggage, you will have to pay for it depending on the weight of your baggage. Jetstar provides various plan to customers to choose. The details are shown as below:

After paying for checked baggage fees, you will be directed to a page that asks you to choose your seats, and of course, it is not free. 3 types of seats are available in Jetstar, from the screenshot shown below, we are see that you will be charged 6 SGD for choosing your standard seats, 9 SGD for upfront seats and 29 SGD for extra legroom.

If you are fine with any seat, you can skip this part and save at least 6 SGD. Actually one of the hack here is that if you know your flight is not on high-demand, you can skip this part without worrying about your seats because there will be plenty of the standard seats left for you and your travel partners to choose from on the day you depart.

After choosing (or you choose not to reserve a seat) your seats, you will be asked by Jetstar if you need in-flight meals. The price is shown as below, there will be a variety of meal choices depending on the routes that you are flying with.

Check-In Process

Jetstar Check-in Counter

If you do not have check-in baggage, I would suggest you to check-in using the self-check-kiosk machine which looks like something below. I have tried various kiosk at different airports and all of them are easy to use and will definitely save you a lot of time queuing at the counter.

Review on Baggage

Jetstar allows economy class travellers to have 1 piece of carry-on bag with maximum 7kg weight. For checked baggage, you will have to pay for it depending on the weights. The price is shown on the previous section.

Things To Take Note of Before You fly with Jetstar

  • If your departure airport is small, do reach the airport at least 1 hour beforehand. This is not specifically related to Jetstar. What happened to us at Phuket airport is that there are only 2 check-in counters for Jetstar and there is no self-check-in machine available. It took us 5 min to self-check-in at Singapore Changi Airport but 45 minutes in Phuket, so do arrive early!
  • Keep an eye on Jetstar's weekly promotions! It is on every Friday!

Reviews on Jetstar, and Ticket Price Comparison Among Budget Airlines

I have had experience flying with various budget airlines, such as Jetstar, Scoot, Tiger (now Scoot and Tiger merged together). These are the popular airways in southeast Asia. In this post I will share my experience with these airlines and compare Jetstar with the rest. Price Review Do not be fooled by the initial price that you searched from these airlines' official websites - the actual price will add on as you compete the booking process.
